The 4 Day Garden Route Tour is running parallel to the southernmost coastline of Africa, is famous for its unique diversity of lakes, mountains, golden beaches, cliffs and dense indigenous forests. Its extraordinary beauty complements the contrast of the adjacent semi-arid valley, called the Little Karoo. This region in turn offers natural wonders such as the Cango Caves and its ideal habitat for ostrich farming makes it the ostrich Mecca of the world.

Duration: 4 Days (Departing daily at 09h00 from Port Elizabeth)

What to bring: A hat protecting against the sun, sunscreen, camera.

Departure point: All hotels as well as the local airport subject to timings.

End destination: Cape Town

What to wear: Comfortable well worn-in clothing and walking shoes, Smart-casual wear is recommended in the evenings.

Fitness

- We also cater for physical disabilities if warned beforehand.

Health & Clothing
No inoculations or vaccinations are required at the time of going to print, but we recommend that you check with your doctor or local health department. People arriving in South Africa from a yellow fever zone must have a valid international yellow fever inoculation certificate.

Infants under the age of one year are exempt. An anti-malaria drug is strongly recommended in certain areas of the far northeastern section of South Africa, please check with us.

Day 1: Garden Route – Tsitsikamma National Park – Knysna
Our first stop is Storms River with the impressive Paul Sauer Bridge across the valley towering some one hundred and thirty nine metres above the river. We visit the Tsitsikamma National Park (Khoisan for 'The place of much water' stretching over one hundred kilometres of wild and rocky coastline characterised by massive cliffs, narrow isolated beaches and shady indigenous forests along the river valleys. Then we traverse through magnificently scenic river valley passes to Plettenberg Bay for a short visit. Continue to Knysna. We join a sundowner cruise on the lagoon.
Overnight at Fish Eagle Lodge or similar.

Day 2: George – Oudtshoorn
Spend the morning in Knysna visiting the “Heads” etc. Knysna also offers shopping opportunities of unusual locally made art and craft, etc. This afternoon we experience some of the most magical views on the Garden Route and Wilderness National Park and scenic viewpoints along the way. We travel over the Outeniqua Mountains to the Little Karoo where we visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch and Valley of Ancients, an endangered species breeding facility extraordinaire. Then travel to our hotel.
Overnight at La Plume Guest House.

Day 3: Oudtshoorn – Mossel Bay
After breakfast we visit an Ostrich Show Farm for some unique experiences including ostrich racing. A ride on a back of an ostrich is not for the fainthearted. We visit the Cango caves, regarded as one of South Africa's foremost natural wonders. The fascinating calcite caves comprises an underground wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites. Visit Oudtshoorn, also called the "Feather capital" of the world, as over ninety percent of the world's ostrich farms are found here. Continue to Mossel Bay.

Day 4: Swellendam – Hermanus – Cape Town
We visit arguably the oldest post office in Africa, the Post Office Tree and the site of the first landfall, made by the Portuguese explorer Bartholomew Dias in 1488. Continue to Hermanus, the best place in the World to spot Whales from land – (July to Dec). After lunch depart for Cape Town via the beautiful coastal route between Hermanus and Gordon’s Bay, arriving late afternoon.

Terms & Conditions
The balance of the fare is due not later than 40 days prior to departure. We reserve the right to cancel any reservation for which the total fare has not been paid by the due date, in which case the deposit will be forfeited. Reservations will be considered as firm bookings (subject to final and full payment received on the prescibed time) as soon as the deposit has been received by us.

The following cancellation charge will apply in respect of travel arrangements:
More than 30 days – no cancellation will be charged (For groups of more than 10 people please check with us)
- 21 to 29 days prior to departure - 25% of full tour price (Subject to hotel cancellation policy)
- 10 to 20 days prior to departure - 50% of full tour price (Subject to hotel cancellation policy)
Less than 10 days prior to departure - 80% of full tour price on scheduled tours (Subject to hotel cancellation policy on private, special and tailor-made itineraries)

NOTES: This cancellation policy may change for tour arrangements other than our scheduled tours and will depend on the policies of the establishments utilised. Cancellation fees on scheduled tours will be calculated on the full published tour price excluding most specials or discounts that may have been afforded at the time of buying the tour - please check with us when confirming your tour.

There were just two of us and the guide. The guide, Yvonne Crouse was excellent and quickly adapted the tour to our tastes.
